RALEIGH Angela Jo Gillespie died unexpectedly on February 18, 2018, at her home in Raleigh, NC. She had just recently relocated from Roanoke, VA, and was looking forward to beginning a new life. Angela was born on February 5, 1962, in Bluefield, WV and was raised and attended public schools in Bluefield, VA. After graduating from Graham High School in 1980, she attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN, graduating with a BA degree in 1984. Angela moved to Roanoke, VA sometime in the late ’80s, working in the insurance business and later in the real estate business for Coldwell Banker. She worked as a mortgage loan originator for Corridor Mortgage Group and had just taken an open position with The Amy Bonis Mortgage Team in Raleigh. She was so much looking forward to working and living in Raleigh with her two dogs, Bella and Bubby. Outside of her family and friends, Angela’s greatest love was the love she had for her pets. Angela always had a cat or a dog in her life from when she was four years old until her untimely death. Whenever anyone abandoned or dropped a cat or dog along the road near her home in Roanoke, they always seemed to end up at Angela’s doorstep, where she took them in and cared for them, thus becoming her pets from that day forward. Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Joann M. Gillespie of Greensboro, NC, brothers David (Marilyn) Gillespie of Greensboro, NC and Douglas (Margot) Gillespie, Jr. of Terre Haute, IN; nephews Jason (Lindsay) Gillespie of Greensboro, NC, Barnes (Mary Beth) Gillespie, III of Indianapolis, IN; nieces Meredith Gillespie of Philadelphia, PA, Ries Thieme of Cincinnati, OH, Caitlyn (Brandon) Voelker of Cold Spring, KY; uncles Bob Mullins of Tuscaloosa, AL, Don (Juanita) Mullins of Bluefield, VA, Roger (Lois) Mullins of Bluefield, VA; and many great-nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas B. Gillespie, Sr. Visitation will be held at Forbis & Dick on North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC on Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 12 to 2 p.m. and the funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
