Following are excerpts from published reviews about Brian Gladstone:
-
If you like Folk and ballads, this album is for
you, and no one does it better than this Canadian GREAT!
Entertainment
News, July 2006
-
Brian Gladstone is a brilliant guitarist and a unique songwriter ..
Folking.com,
August 2006 -
Brian Gladstone, artist and festival director for Winterfolk took the
stage Saturday at the Silver Dollar Room and if you closed your eyes,
you'd swear an easy-to-understand Bob Dylan was on stage. He played a
fantastic set of humorous, sometimes poignant songs the audience
really got into.

Canada's Brian
Gladstone is doing some amazing finger picking on this funny,
inventive album—maybe the best folk album that I ever heard. I grew up
on folk music, and Brian Gladstone is in that room with the big boys
like Woody himself. Brian Gladstone's music comes across in rich,
resonating tones found on pre-disco records of so-called classic
rock. ... I love this album, and you will, too, if you have the
slightest interest in Americana, folk, or porch music.

Magazine) -
... 'our host
today was the outrageous Brian Gladstone. Brian is not only
outrageous, he's also a lot of fun, in addition to being a really
great guitar picker, he has an easy and relaxed way with the
audience.'
(Outrageous Summer Open Stage. Toronto, Canada June 2003)
-
Activism is alive...
thanks for contributing to its life force.
(Ember Swift) -
Brian Gladstone is
just great, and his way to present a song is top notch.
(Dann Hansen, The Hanging Tree Radio
Program, Denmark April 2003)
-
Gladstone is an imaginative and
intuitive songwriter and a natural storyteller, unrestrained by
conventional limitations. A fair-to-middling' guitar picker, Gladstone
has a friendly voice and an infectious musical personality. Your
humble scribe doesn't know a whole lot about folk music, but know what
I like and I like Psychedelic Pholk Songs more every time I listen to
it. Psychedelic Pholk Songs is a breath of fresh air, an honest album
by a real musician.
(Reverend Keith A.
Gordon from his column 'The Review on Pop Culture, Aug 2002.) -
For those who are
open minded, take a toke on Psychedelic Pholk Psongs. This is one of
the more original records I've heard in many months.
(Jesse Sturdevant, Reviewer for Folkwax Magazine, Feb 2002)
-
Brian Gladstone is finger-picking guitar
master, an insightful lyricist, a colourful story-teller, and a
dynamic performer. (Canada Music Week Magazine)
-
Brian's particular way
of seeing things through irony and old time approach reminds me of great
artists as John Prine, Dave Van Ronk, and Mississippi John Hurt. He is
their own true son and he continues their great sounds."
-
The Toronto-based
singer-songwriter is an early Bob Dylan, a guitar wizard on par with
Jesse Cook, and a lyricist who can evoke a plethora of emotions with a
single song.
-
Brian's finger-picking is a tip-off to his debt
to the old masters.
(To Nite Magazine, review by Gary Tate)
-
Psychedelic Pholk Psongs
is quite simply the perfect independent folk release.
-
Psychedelic
Pholk Psongs is ultimately one of the better folk recordings available
by any artist, anywhere. (Folkwax Magazine)
-
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Brian
Gladstone's second release, Psychedelic Pholk Psongs, is a throwback to
the days when all you needed to make a good album was your voice and a
guitar.
(Derek Tse, Roots Reviewer, Toronto Sun)
-
With his countrified,
playfully narrative lyrics, the indie performer … -- recalls legendary
singer/storyteller John Prine. Psychedelic Pholk Psongs is an eclectic
90 minutes of unadorned, twangy country, moody folk and silly ditties.
(Toronto Sun, Derek
Tsu, Roots Reviewer)
-
Brian's song writing
approach is freewheeling, so learning that the unexpected is to become
the expected, while the predictable becomes the unpredictable, lies at
the heart of his beguiling charms. Gladstone is a fastidious and
humorous chronicler of all his experiences, whether they’re based on
fact or dreams.
-
That's the album's undeniable strength --
there's tremendous pleasure derived from listening to the soothing
sounds of Gladstone strumming his guitar.
(Toronto Sun)
-
Brian has done it again
- he's given the world a CD chocked full of songs that make music fun
and entertaining again.

Brian Gladstone is a
singer/songwriter to keep tabs on, when pop culture swings back to
simplicity, his name is going to be on everyone's lips.
