Back to the Dirt.
First
quick pass is that you are one impressive dude.
You
have spent lifetimes picking the guitar. It is obvious you are an
incredible
musician, but I am afraid I have my doubts about you as a
vocalist.
It's not that your bad, it's just that your so...well...Arlo
Guthrie
(whom I adore). Perhaps we need another Arlo and I'm just behind the
times
a bit. I feel like you have another voice that is perhaps more
intimate,
more vulnerable.
I
would be most interested to hear you sing a lullaby, or a serious love
ballad
where you sing as if you've never been hurt.
I'm
sorry, I hope you're up to hearing this feedback. I afraid I run with a
crowd
who's motto is "...tell the truth, faster". It can be a bit harsh at
times,
but always honest, always loving.
Bravo
on the CD, outrageous lyrics, smashing success. I know the blood,
sweat
and money that go into this kind of venture. When do you release your
second
CD? Yours, Kate
Z.

entirely impressed! What a polished, professional product that even
has a worth while message. Excellent! Of course, you've
probably heard that a 1000 times, but believe me.. I'm hearing all sorts
of influences in your music. You remind me of a cross between Tom
Petty, Jimmy Buffet and Cat Stevens. There's an interesting
combination. The resulting mix is highly unusual.... Tom Petty - the
voice and music style > Jimmy Buffet - the sense of humour and style > Cat
Stevens - the outlook on life and style. I love the instrumentals. Very easy on the ears. I could listen to
it all night long. At first I wasn't impressed with the vocals. But, they kind
of grow on you. PS Black Bearded Wonder is the best...

Hello Brian: I received the CD on Friday and have played it a few times now. Nice to hear music by someone who knows their instrument. Good clean sound that is not electronically altered....
Arlo Guthrie, Mississippi mud and ragtime tones are a nice blend to soften the realities that you sing about.
Children of the Sun, the flute is a warm touch, like the cry of a loon in the background. I have a weakness for flute, its a cultural thing. (Mohawk men use a flute when they court)
There are many twists in your lyrics. You almost let people see your inner feelings and then La La La or some other bridge to change the focus on the emotions....
my first impressions, there are many levels, just as it should be. Thank you. Later,
Theresa

hi, caren touched me, not only because i could relate to the words, but you can feel her spirit, she must be a wonderful person,
you have a very special gift to give the world. sometimes its hard to talk about ourselves, we get caught into everything we do and it consumes our lives, we lose our way, caren not only knows her gift now but every time the song is sung it is a conformation, to be materialized in the universe, so she will know on one level or the other :-) , perhaps one day when she goes to weave a tangled web again, it will not be so tangled, but she will weave something beautiful and it will be herself, thetas what i got out of it. it may be right or wrong but it is my perception, i wanted to share it w/ you.
no need to explain the words, i understand, when i hear the thunder there is never a need to explain the lightning nor the way in its fury it seeks the earth, and in that there is such beauty, there is music and i feel your music must move people w/ the same level of passion, right or wrong my perception only.
there is a power in your words, they have moved me,
i can only imagine

17/99 Brian Gladstone gets Back to the Dirt Local Folk/Roots balladeer Brian Gladstone has a new CD
coming out, with a release party planned for the
Silver Dollar on Friday,
September 17. Called Back to the Dirt, the album has fifteen tracks, of which
Gladstone wrote thirteen. The multi-talented performer, who often appears at
local open stages, and has appeared at our SpringRise Celebration concerts, sang
all lead vocals and played guitars, banjo, slide, dobro, bass, and coke can on
the album. The CD is totally acoustic in sound -- no electric instruments were
permitted in the production, he says, and there's practically no signal
processing or electronic enhancements. Written by
